STOVE FAQ

STOVE OUTPUT

This is the amount of heat a stove can produce per hour expressed in Kilowatts (kW). As a rough guide 2 kWs is equivalent to the heat output of one large double radiator.

OPERATING RANGE

This is the wide band of heat a good quality stove can produce, As a guide a stove rated at 5 kW could produce between 1.5 and 6 kWs depending on the amount of fuel and air used.

OUTPUT REQUIREMENTS

This is a calculation taking into account the room size, insulation values, heat losses and the homeowners lifestyle requirements, to arrive at the correct size of stove for a room.

AIR WASH

This is a system found in good quality stoves that pre-heats the air and then pushes it down the inside of the stove window to help prevent soot deposits building up on the glass.

ROOM AIR VENT

This is a vent in the wall or floor that ensures enough fresh air enters the room to allow complete combustion in the stove. Applies to stoves with a nominal output of 5kWs plus.

HETAS

This is the official body recognised by the Government to approve the installation of solid fuel and wood stoves in the UK. It registers, trains and checks approved stove installers.
